7 Must Do Activities For Your Sri Lanka Itinerary

When it comes to the best things to do in Sri Lanka, there is plenty to choose from and this incredible country has some memorable experiences to add to any Sri Lanka itinerary.

So if you’re busy planning your Sri Lanka trip right now, here are 7 of our favourites…

Safari

Get immersed in the incredible wildlife of Sri Lanka on a safari tour. Both Yala National Park and Udawalawe National Park offer some incredible safari options, from day trip to overnight stays.

If you’re staying with us at Secret Spot Villa then we can easily arrange a day trip to Udawalawe National Park, where hundreds of wild elephants call home and if you’re lucky you might even catch a glimpse of the leopards too!

Whale and Dolphin Watching

Time to hit the water for some whale and dolphin watching! The ocean around Sri Lanka is teeming with marine life and there are plenty of whale watching excursions to choose from (with Mirissa being a key departure point for them), although Sail Lanka is certainly one of our top recommendations. Fingers crossed you’ll meet the worlds largest animal, with Blue Whales often seen in the waters.

Learn to Surf

We’re slilghtly biased, but we think learning to surf should be part of everyones top things to do in Sri Lanka! The rolling waves and sandy bottom beaches are the perfect place to learn to surf and we’ve teamed up with the guys at Ticket To Ride Surf House to offer their week long surf packages or single lessons - so go get stoked!

Sigiriya Rock

An absolutely iconic desitnaiton in Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is steeped in history and a beautiful part of the country to explore too. The hike to the top is a memorable experience in itself and the views are beautiful too. Arrive early if you can to avoid the crowds!

Get Templed Out

Your Sri Lanka trip wouldn’t be complete without exploring some of the iconic temples dotted around the country either, and like many parts of Asia these combine history, culture and grandure! There’s a huge range of architecture involved as well - with our top picks being Jetavanaramaya, Sri Dalada Maligawa, Dambulla Royal Cave Temple and Golden Temple, Naguleswaram Temple, Munneswaram Temple and of course the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic.

Tea Plantations

Chill out and enjoy a refreshing cup of award winning tea - Sri Lanka has some amazing tea plantations to explore and of course enjoy a cup of at the same time!

Hit up the Hill Country for some sprawling mountainside views, or enjoy some of the lesser known, but equally enjoyable local ones closer to the coast
