Whens the best time to visit?
Dry season in Ahangama and the south west coast of Sri Lanka runs from October through to late May, with the peak part of this being December to March. As well as dry season, this is also surf season too! Green season (June to late Sept) is a cheaper time of year to travel this part of Sri Lanka and although there may be some showers, it’s still good fun!
How far is Secret Spot Villa from the airport?
Secret Spot Villa is around a 2.5 hour ride from Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). We recommend paying for the toll roads for a quicker, smoother journey.
How can I get to Secret Spot Villa?
You can easily grab a taxi from the airport and our villa is listed on Google Maps, making it super easy to find. We can also arrange airport transfers if you’d like to be greeted at the airport by one of our drivers too. Drop us an email about rates as it varies slightly on car size and if you’re travelling with surfboards.
What happens if I have any questions or need help whilst I’m staying at the villa?
If you have any questions or need any assistance whilst staying at Secret Spot Villa, the villa manager Savindu is available via WhatsApp and can swing by and help with anything if needed.
Do you have security?
Even though Ahangama is a very relaxed spot in Sri Lanka, we’ve got an awesome night security team to keep a watchful eye on the place.
They’ll turn up around 6pm in the evening and head out around 6am in the morning.
They’re super friendly so please feel free to have a chat with them, but we’ve also advised them to keep themselves to themselves if you don’t want to be disturbed.
They have keys to the front gate, but not the villa itself.
We also have CCTV on the property as a backup for during the day and when we don’’t have guests.
What about cleaners?
If you're staying for 5 nights or more, then our cleaners will swing by to clean the villa, and for stays over 6 nights in length, you’ll have a mid stay clean - including a fresh set of towels and bedding.
If you prefer not to have the villa cleaned during your stay, or require extra cleans please let us know.
The gardening & pool team also come around a few times per week to keep the plants in tip top shape and water everything during dry season, as well as keeping the pool clean and clear, so make sure you say hi if you see them.
Both the garden and pool staff have keys to the main gate, but no access to the inside of the villa.
Is this a private villa?
Yes, all bookings include the full villa complex to yourselves
How far is the nearest beach?
The closest beach to Secret spot villa is the famous Kabalana Beach. It’s an easy 5 minute stroll from the front gate underneath the palm trees.
Is there wifi?
For sure! The villa comes with fibreoptic broadband, delivering speeds of up to 200mbps. We do also recommend grabbing a local SIM at the airport too, with super cheap data bundles available. Not only does that allow you to stay connected when you’re out and about, they’re also handy incase of any power cuts too.
How long can I stay?
As standard we offer a 2 night minimum but you can stay as long as you want! 7 night bookings include a 5% discount, or 10% for a monthly rate.
What is provided?
All linen is provided as well as 2 sets of towels, one for the beach and one for villa use only.
We also have boutique body wash and hand wash in the bathrooms, but all other toiletries are not provided.
Guests also have access to other extras, including premium yoga mats, beach baskets and umbrellas to make your stay even more comfortable.
Are there any cleaning fees or additional costs?
Nope, we don’t charge any extra cleaning fees when you book direct with us.
Where can I take our cash?
You can take out Sri Lankan Rupees at the airport (just to the left as you come through arrivals) and there are also a couple of ATMs in Ahangama. A lot of restaurants and bars accept card payments, but we still advise carrying cash for use at smaller, local restaurants as well as for tuk tuks
Can I bring my own surfboard?
For sure! There is plenty of space under the beds for board bags and we also have a dedicated surfboard rack in each of the bedrooms too.
Can you hire surfboards?
Surfboard hire is easily available locally at the beach and via our surf partners at Ticket To Ride
Is there a pool?
Yup - pack your swimmers! Our pool is 7.5m x 2.5m, so there’s plenty of space for a refreshing dip!
And it’s lit up at night so you can enjoy an evening swim as well.
Please be aware though, the pool is unfenced and used at your own risk.
How many people can Secret Spot Villa accomodate?
The villa sleeps up to 4 people across a double and a twin bedroom. If you’d like both bedrooms as twin bed setups this can also be arrange for stays of 7 nights or more. We also have a cot if you’re travelling with an infant.
Is there A/C?
Of course! Both bedrooms have their own A/C and ceiling fans, as does the open plan living/dinning room area.
Do you have hot water?
Secret Spot Villa has a solar hot water system, so you’ll have hot water in all the taps and showers as long as the sun is shinning (which it usually is!)
Are children welcome?
We welcome anyone to Secret Spot Villa!
A cot is available if you are travelling with an infant too.
Please be aware though all facilities, including the pool area (which is unfenced) are used at your own risk. Unfortunately we’re unable to provide high chairs or other ammenities for younger children, but feel free to bring your own!
Is it pet/animal friendly?
Secret Spot Villa has a no pets or animals allowed policy.
Of course the local wildlife has full roam - so keep an eye out for parakeets and monkeys as well as our resident palm squirrels who you’ll often see bouncing around the garden.
Is there parking?
There is space for a single car or tuk tuk. This is off road parking, inside the villa gates, which are lockable.
Are laundry facilities available?
There isn’t a washer/dryer in the villa, however you can easily sort a local laundry service nearby. We have details of the options we recommend in your Villa Welcome book. For boardies / bikinis / wet stuff we do have drying racks in both the ensuites and these can also be moved outdoors to take advantage of the sunshine.
What about meals?
Secret Spot Villa is a self catering rental, so meals aren’t included. There is a fully equipped kitchenette if you did want to cook, and this includes gas stove, dishes, cutlery, cooking utensils, tea pot and coffee plunger - as well as full size fridge freezer.
There are plenty of restaurants within a short walk of the villa serving both local and international dishes and many of which can do delivery too. We’ve included a selection of our favourites in the Villa Welcome Book.
Do you offer long term or green season rates?
Indeed - if you want to stay at Secret Spot Villa for 1 week or more we offer discounted rates. Drop us an email or use our booking enquiry form and we will make sure you’re looked after. For green season (mid May - late Sept) we also offer some epic green season deals too.
How can you get around?
If you’re venturing further afield than walking distance then the iconic tuk tuks are the easiest way to travel around.
If you head to the main road you wont have any issue flagging one down at any time of the day.
To make things simpler we’ve also teamed up with one of our favourite local tuk tuk drivers to offer pre negociated rates to many destinations and surf spots in the area, so you know what you’re paying up front. His WhatsApp details and rates are included in the Villa Welcome Book so you can arrange your travel directly with him.
What is your cancellation policy?
The following terms and conditions apply to all bookings made directly with Secret Spot Villa:
Cancellation outside of 30 days of arrival = 50% cancellation fee
Cancellation within 30 days of arrival = non refundable
Free date changes may also be offered, however this is subject to availability, dates and at our discretion.
